How to get to Vaxholms Kastell & Badholmen

 

Reaching Vaxholm Kastell and Badholmen is simpler than most people expect – even though both are on their own islands in the archipelago. Whether you’re coming from Stockholm, already in Vaxholm, or arriving by boat, there are several easy ways to get here.

Getting to Vaxholm — by Car, Bus or Boat

Vaxholm ligger ungefär 3 mil norr om Stockholm och det går det lätt att ta sig hit på flera sätt.

Vaxholm – by Car

Take road 274 north, easily accessible from the E18 motorway. The drive from central Stockholm takes around 35–45 minutes. There’s plenty of parking near the town centre and the harbour in Vaxholm.

Vaxholm – by Bus

SL buses run regularly from Danderyds sjukhus (red metro line) to Vaxholm. The journey takes around 40 minutes, with the bus going all the way to Vaxholm town centre.

Vaxholm – by Boat

Waxholmsbolaget operates daily departures from Strömkajen by the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm (approx. 50 minutes). From May to September, you can also travel with the ferry Cinderellabåtarna from Strandvägen.

Getting to Vaxholm Kastell

The Kastell sits on its own island just across the water from Vaxholm. The crossing takes just a few minutes.

The Kastell Boat – Our Own Shuttle

The boat departs every 20 minutes from Vaxholm, berth 7.

Schedule for 2026:

22–25 June:
10:20–17:30 (last departure from Kastellet 17:30)

26 June–16 August (via Badholmen):
10:20–21:30 (last departure from Badholmen 21:30)

17 August–6 September: Saturday–Sunday
10:20–17:30 (last departure from Kastellet 17:30)

Adults: SEK 110 return / SEK 60 single
Children: SEK 80 return / SEK 45 single

Tickets available at the pier or onboard.

Waxholmsbolaget to Kastellet

Runs through the sound daily from Stockholm or Vaxholm. Check waxholmsbolaget.se or the SL app.

Cinderellabåtarna from Stockholm

Travel directly from central Stockholm to Vaxholm and transfer to the Kastell Boat M/S Djurgården 4. The connection is included in your ticket.

By private boat

The Kastell’s guest harbour has around 15 berths, free of charge for island visitors (first come, first served). Additional moorings are available at Vaxholm’s guest harbour.

Water Taxi & Group Transport
